HOW MUCH WILL THE LOUISIANA MUSIC MUSEUM COST?

The projected cost is approximately $10 million, which includes restoring of the historic Lafayette Hardware Store building, constructing a modern annex, creating state-of-the-art exhibitions, and establishing an endowment for future sustainability.

HOW WILL THE MUSEUM SUSTAIN ITSELF?

The Louisiana Music Museum will have its own building, programs, and memberships, while benefiting from AcA’s proven infrastructure, management, and 50-year legacy of cultural leadership in Acadiana.

WHO WILL OWN AND OPERATE THE MUSEUM?

The Louisiana Music Museum is a project of the Acadiana Center for the Arts, (AcA), a 50-year-old regional arts council and 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in downtown Lafayette.

WHO WILL RUN THE DAY TO DAY OPERATIONS OF THE MUSEUM?

The Louisiana Music Museum will have dedicated curatorial, visitor services, and education staff.

It will also host internships and artist residencies to foster involvement from university students and the local music community.

The Louisiana Music Museum will prioritize development of Lafayette’s music economy.

WHAT KIND OF EXHIBITS WILL THE MUSEUM FEATURE?

Immersive galleries will explore Louisiana’s diverse musical traditions - from New Orleans jazz and funk, to Shreveport rockabilly, Baton Rouge gospel and blues, and Acadiana’s Cajun, zydeco, and swamp pop.

Permanent exhibitions will be on the first floor. Rotating exhibitions on the second floor will cover various genres, artists, and eras.

WILL I BE ABLE TO PLAY OR INTERACT WITH MUSIC IN THE MUSEUM?

Yes! Many of the exhibitions will include interactive elements - from listening stations and video installations to hands-on instrument experiences.

WILL THE MUSEUM ONLY FOCUS ON CAJUN AND CREOLE MUSIC?

No. While rooted in Acadiana, the museum celebrates the full musical tapestry of Louisiana, highlighting genres and influences from every corner of the state.

WILL THE MUSEUM BE KID-FRIENDLY?

Definitely. The museum is being designed for multi-generational audiences, including family friendly activities, educational programs, and exhibits.

WILL THERE BE LIVE PERFORMANCES?

Yes!! The Music Hall, Rotating Exhibits Gallery, and Education Space will host performances from musicians across Louisiana, along with dance events, parties, and educational workshops.

The Music Hall will be a mid-sized concert, dance, and party space unlike any other in our area.

The fun and vibrant atmosphere among the building’s historic elements will make you feel like it has been part of Louisiana’s music scene for decades.

WILL THE MUSEUM BE RENTED OUT FOR PRIVATE EVENTS?

Yes. The Music Hall and other spaces will be available for private rentals, meetings, workshops, and cultural events during non-program hours.
